How can Amplexa help you?

At Amplexa we offer COVID-19 tests at the standard recommended by WHO. Our RT-PCR method is the standardized test method carried out all over the world.

The assay targets specific genomic regions of the SARS-CoV-2 Nucleocapsid (N) gene and the Orf1ab gene. The assay also includes a human target for internal control. The limit of detection is 1 copy/mL or 20 copies/reaction volume for each viral target. The test is highly specific with a sensitivity of 95% and a precision of 99%. This is the same as any other RT-qPCR tests offered on the market.

Our experience with COVID-19

COVID-19 is a serious topic and needs to be handled by professionals. Amplexa's experts are qualified and have been working with SARS-CoV-2 detection since the pandemic began.

Denmark

The Danish public health system is taking care of most of the testing in Denmark, however, this does not allow very much flexibility.

Conversely, Amplexa is offering tailormade agreements to companies in need. One of our customers are the shipping company Smyril Line, with Danish operations out of Hirtshals. All travellers to the North Atlantic are required to have a negative test before being allowed to enter their destination country. Amplexa acquire swabs from passengers as they board the ferry and return a result within 12 hours.

Faroe Islands

Amplexa Genetics is closely linked to the Faroe Islands. We have assisted in setting up the COVID-19 testing approach and are supporting the Faroese company Thetis.

Iceland

We have assisted the Icelandic authorities with our knowledge on the topic and in the initial establishment of an experimental procedure.

Greenland

As COVID-19 caused a global lockdown Greenland was challenged with the number of tests required in a very short time. Amplexa assisted not only in setting up the testing facility in the hospital of Nuuk, but also running the analyses.

Initially, we helped testing residents of Greenland, and subsequently also tourists as the country reopened for travels.

Currently, we are functioning as support for the hospital running the tests in Nuuk.

SARS-CoV-2 Real-time RT-PCR Assay

SARS-CoV-2 Real-time RT-PCR assay from PerkinElmer

From the provider:

The SARS-CoV-2 Real-time RT-PCR assay is CE-IVD marked and intended for in vitro diagnostic use in Europe. This assay provides reliable and high-quality results for the clinical detection of COVID-19 in human oropharyngeal swab, nasopharyngeal swab, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), sputum, plasma or serum samples.

The assay reagents bought from PerkinElmer have recently been shown to be among the best on the market. The sensitivity of various commercially available kits is tested in a comparative analysis published in Nature.

From the National Board of Health:

“The sensitivity of the test depends of the degree of symptoms and the acquisition of sample material. Preliminary analyses of existing literature and results from Statens Serum Institut initial validation of the PCR analysis indicate that PCR for SARS-CoV-2 of oropharyngeal swabs from patiens with obvious symptoms from the upper respiratory tract has a sensitivity of 90-95% (meaning around 5-10% false negatives) and a specifity of over 99% (meaning almost no false positives). Sensitivity and specificity of PCR for SARS-CoV-2 in patients with mild symptoms is not currently known.”

Taken together, while we are running the golden standard of SARS-CoV-2 tests it does have its limitations, and there is a risk it will return false negatives, just like the other tests on the market.
